The Community Foundation of Northwest Georgia

Calhoun-Gordon Foundation Overview

Be a Part of It

Created in 2004, the Calhoun-Gordon Community Foundation is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for both present and future generations of Gordon Countians.

To accomplish this mission, we will:

• Promote philanthropy and charitable giving;

• Build & maintain permanent endowment funds to be used for the broad civic and humanitarian needs of Gordon County;

• Serve as a leader in identifying and prioritizing needs in our community;

• Serve a partner in developing effective responses to community issues;

• Encourage collaboration between organizations and individuals to shape solutions.

The Calhoun-Gordon Community Foundation is an Affiliate Fund of the Community Foundation of Northwest Georgia – a non-profit organization working to build long-term charitable capacity for the Northwest Georgia region.

The Foundation devoted its efforts during 2005 to educating the community about our goals and asking for their investment in our future.

We asked the residents of Calhoun and Gordon County to join us in our goal of creating a $2 million permanent endowment. We challenged the members of our community to imagine a “permanent and renewable” source of funding for important civic and humanitarian projects. To add strength to our message, we told everyone we talked to that each dollar they contributed would be matched by a challenge grant made possible by Shaw Industries and the Community Foundation of Northwest Georgia.

The strength of our message resonated throughout Gordon County and by the end of the year, the Community Foundation had secured commitments of over $1 million to the endowment!

While 2005 was a year that saw the Foundation’s Endowment growing through donations, it was also the first year that the Foundation was able to make grants to area projects. Nearly twenty local organizations applied for grants, with nine receiving a combined total of $25,000. Projects that received support focused on education and humanitarian programs serving families and children in Gordon County.

In closing, I would again like to thank the individuals, families and businesses that helped make our goal of building a $2 million permanent endowment a reality. Your support of this important effort underscores your commitment to the future of Calhoun and Gordon County. Thank you for your vision.

As our efforts continue, we will build upon the success of 2005 and 2006, and continue to broaden the philanthropic efforts of the Foundation. To that end, I would like to personally invite you to become part of this very important project and the impact it will have on our community – now and in the future.
